About ARE

Asia Research and Engagement (ARE) brings investor voices to Asia’s sustainable development challenges. We collaborate with investors to encourage change at large listed Asian companies, using dialogue, benchmarking, and research as the tools to engage senior business decision-makers. Our work covers finance, energy, and food- agriculture. ARE is headquartered in Singapore and maintains offices in Singapore and China, with a growing presence in India, Thailand and Japan. ARE launched the Asia Protein Transition Platform with collaborating investors to help drive more sustainable and responsible protein systems. The platform maintains an aspirational 2030 vision and goals, and sets out specific investor-expected protein sustainability disclosures for Asian food and agriculture businesses, including for plant/alternative proteins.

  • Lead engagement with relevant listed food and agri companies and banks in Indonesia (and Malaysia if contract extended).
  • Liaise where needed with Indonesian communication agencies, allies, and the ARE communication team for advocacy and communication assets and media opportunities.
  • Monitor and report as relevant to the Protein Transition programme and ARE as a whole.
  • Contribute to protein transition and ARE team insights for acceleration of farm animal welfare via corporate change (and potentially plant-protein adoption in future).

Requirements and competencies:

  • Agri-food corporate or NGO advocacy background with a minimum of five years’ corporate engagement, sustainability knowledge, or supply chain experience in Indonesia.
  • A track record of collaboration towards a common goal and/or key corporate outcomes.

  • Proficiency in spoken and written business Indonesian and English.
  • Adequate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, and ideally stakeholder management (CRM) software.
  • Strong communication, including some external communication/media-facing skills/experience.
  • Able to work independently, remotely and in a team, with a proactive and learning mindset.

Required attributes:

  • Tenacious, collaborative, and intellectually curious.
  • Able to work in a multicultural context.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Identify themes, recognise issues, and be able to discuss constructive solutions.
