Benjamin McCarron

Managing Director

Benjamin is a leading expert in sustainable investment and active ownership. A former fund manager, he had his first role in sustainable investment in 2005. He founded ARE in 2013 to address the gap in dialogue between investors and companies on sustainable development challenges and to provide high quality, independent research. He is also a Lead Representative for GRESB. He studied mathematics and philosophy at Oxford and took professional examinations in investment management and research in the UK.

Director - Protein Transition

Kate leads ARE’s Protein Transition work and team across Asia. Kate has extensive expertise in food systems, farm animal health, animal welfare, and alternative proteins. Formerly, she was the Head of Research at a global NGO focused on humane farming and sustainable proteins. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors training programme and the Australian School of Applied Management. Kate has contributed to global strategies across sustainable animal husbandry and food systems, and led corporate and policy engagement, including for the One Health initiative.

His deep expertise in sustainable energy started in a US financial institution where he managed a portfolio of renewable energy projects involving hydro, RNG, biomass, geothermal and wind technologies. Based in Singapore for the past 27 years, Kurt was the regional senior risk manager for a US financial institution during the first Asian Financial Crisis. In 2005, he founded GEM advisory where his passion for sustainable energy continued, and his projects ranged from guiding a start-up sustainable fuel company for listing on AIM to the restructuring of one of the largest solar panel manufacturers.

Yvonne leads ARE’s Sustainable Real Estate work and team across Asia. A seasoned company director with extensive board of trustees, board of director and board of advisor experience, Yvonne was formerly the Director of CapitaLand’s flagship education real estate project. Her mandate was to unlock value and enhance the project valuation of Rochester Commons, a S$550 million mixed-use real estate project, in Singapore. She is also the Lead Representative of GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) in Asia which specialises in real estate and infrastructure ESG scorecards and ESG ratings.

A seasoned company director with over 25 years of MNC experience, Yvonne was formerly the Director of CapitaLand’s flagship education real estate project. Her mandate was to unlock value and enhance the project valuation of Rochester Commons, a S$550 million mixed-use real estate project, in Singapore. She is passionate about sustainability and holds a certificate of excellence from the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. She is also on the Board of Advisors to a zero waste and plastic circularity company which is a partner of Singapore Pavilion in COP27.

Country Director - China

Helen leads ARE’s Energy Transition work and team in China. She has extensive knowledge and expertise in GHG emission reduction and climate change matters in China. She brings with her more than 20 years of commercial experience working in the energy, industrial and financial sectors. Helen has successfully implemented key projects for a wide network of corporations and government entities.

After initially starting his energy-related career in journalism, Peter was Lead Energy Analyst at The Economist Intelligence Unit. Since 2017, he has focused more on energy transition trends and issues in the Asian region, including analysis of national-level climate and energy policies, climate financing to boost the development of cleaner energy systems, and the emergence of low carbon technologies.

Mano brings experience in interacting with businesses across industries, delivering authentic and impactful communications, as well as managing partnerships, projects, and programmes.

Dave provides support in research and stakeholder engagement for Sustainable Protein. He graduated from Singapore Management University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Business Management. In his senior and final year, Dave pursued his interest in sustainable finance by working as a research assistant in SMU and later joining ARE as an intern prior to graduation.

In this role he was responsible for overall group strategy in the region, reporting to the bank’s regional CEO and the Global Head of Strategy. Prior to this role, Clifford spent 17 years working in Global Markets and was responsible for the bank’s currency business in the Asia Pacific. He had various senior roles including being a member of the Corporate & Investment Bank APAC executive committee and the Head of Diversity for Global Markets.

Clifford worked in DB’s London and Tokyo offices before joining the foreign exchange business in Singapore. He was instrumental in helping develop the nascent Asian currency option trading and structuring business in the region. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Clifford practiced as a consulting engineer in London.

Clifford holds both a Bachelor of Engineering degree and an MBA from Imperial College London.

Linus’ experience covers executive leadership roles in international capital markets and investment banking. He served as COO for Deutsche Bank’s Asia Pacific businesses after leading trading and sales teams at UBS and Citigroup. He has been deeply involved in restructuring Singapore’s regulated securities and derivatives markets. At SGX, he led the development and management of listed exchange products and services, before being appointed CFO and Head of Strategy.

Linus holds an S.M. in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Sheffield. He has also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and the Oxford Fintech Program at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

She also deployed Forestry programmes with the national Forestry Ministries in Cambodia and Indonesia.

Ruby serves on several boards, including education technology nonprofit Rumie.org, the Asian Cultural Council, and The Asia Foundation. She is the former Board Chair of the Asia Pacific Leaders’ Malaria Alliance. She was a member of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Finance Committee for her 2016 Presidential campaign and a member of Brown University President’s Leadership Council for 14 years.

Bringing a global perspective, she was born in Tokyo, attended the American School in Japan, and graduated from Brown University. She currently splits time between Singapore, the United States, and Switzerland.

inus Koh is Chairman of Nutmeg Capital, a family office with venture capital and private equity interests in finance, technology, and healthcare. He has advised and participated on the boards of several portfolio entities.  

Linus’ experience covers executive leadership roles in international capital markets and investment banking. He served as COO for Deutsche Bank’s Asia Pacific businesses after leading trading and sales teams at UBS and Citigroup. He has been deeply involved in restructuring Singapore's regulated securities and derivatives markets. At SGX, he led the development and management of listed exchange products and services, before being appointed CFO and Head of Strategy.

She also deployed Forestry programmes with the national Forestry Ministries in Cambodia and Indonesia.

Ruby serves on several boards, including education technology nonprofit Rumie.org, the Asian Cultural Council, and The Asia Foundation. She is the former Board Chair of the Asia Pacific Leaders’ Malaria Alliance. She was a member of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Finance Committee for her 2016 Presidential campaign and a member of Brown University President’s Leadership Council for 14 years.

Bringing a global perspective, she was born in Tokyo, attended the American School in Japan, and graduated from Brown University. She currently splits time between Singapore, the United States, and Switzerland.

Benjamin Mccaron

enjamin is a leading expert in sustainable investment and active ownership. A former fund manager, he had his first role in sustainable investment in 2005. He founded ARE in 2013 to address the gap in dialogue between investors and companies on sustainable development challenges and to provide high quality, independent research. He is also a Lead Representative for GRESB. He studied mathematics and philosophy at Oxford and took professional examinations in investment management and research in the UK.

Kate Blaszak

Director - Protein Transition

ate leads ARE’s Protein Transition work and team across Asia. Kate has extensive expertise in food systems, farm animal health, animal welfare, and alternative proteins. Formerly, she was the Head of Research at a global NGO focused on humane farming and sustainable proteins. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors training programme and the Australian School of Applied Management. Kate has contributed to global strategies across sustainable animal husbandry and food systems, and led corporate and policy engagement, including for the One Health initiative.

Kurt Metzger

Director - Energy Transition

K

urt leads ARE’s Energy Transition programme. His deep expertise in sustainable energy started in a US financial institution where he managed a portfolio of renewable energy projects involving hydro, RNG, biomass, geothermal and wind technologies. Based in Singapore for the past 27 years, Kurt was the regional senior risk manager for a US financial institution during the first Asian Financial Crisis. In 2005, he founded GEM advisory where his passion for sustainable energy continued, and his projects ranged from guiding a start-up sustainable fuel company for listing on AIM to the restructuring of one of the largest solar panel manufacturers.

Yvonne Huang

Director - Sustainable Real Estate

vonne leads ARE’s Sustainable Real Estate work and team across Asia. A seasoned company director with extensive board of trustees, board of director and board of advisor experience, Yvonne was formerly the Director of CapitaLand’s flagship education real estate project. Her mandate was to unlock value and enhance the project valuation of Rochester Commons, a S$550 million mixed-use real estate project, in Singapore. She is also the Lead Representative of GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) in Asia which specialises in real estate and infrastructure ESG scorecards and ESG ratings.

Helen Jia

elen leads ARE’s Energy Transition work and team in China. She has extensive knowledge and expertise in GHG emission reduction and climate change matters in China. She brings with her more than 20 years of commercial experience working in the energy, industrial and financial sectors. Helen has successfully implemented key projects for a wide network of corporations and government entities.

Peter Kiernan

Research Manager – Energy Transition

eter has considerable experience in the analysis of energy transition issues, with a focus on developments in climate policy and energy market trends. After initially starting his energy-related career in journalism, Peter was Lead Energy Analyst at The Economist Intelligence Unit. Since 2017, he has focused more on energy transition trends and issues in the Asian region, including analysis of national-level climate and energy policies, climate financing to boost the development of cleaner energy systems, and the emergence of low carbon technologies.

Her former roles include being a partner of a US engineering consulting firm and General Manager of Greater China for a British building research institute. Her expertise ranges from sustainability reporting, Net-zero building, ESG strategy, to stakeholder engagements with government, industry, and academia to facilitate knowledge, collaborations, and partnerships.
