ARE Job Description: China 2025 Internship – Protein Transition Programme (minimum 3 months)

Asia Research and Engagement (ARE) collaborates with institutional investors to bring solutions to Asia’s sustainability challenges. We engage a range of companies, banks and investors in the areas of Energy Transition and Protein Transition.
ARE is one of a kind. We are dedicated to making a difference. Our purpose is to create a sustainable and compassionate Asia, via investor-backed corporate engagement. We use constructive dialogue and research, building conviction for sustainability and supporting escalation of investor concerns where warranted. The programmes also engage Asia’s banks, as relevant.
After successful investor collaborations from late 2022, ARE launched an Asia Protein Transition Platform with collaborating investors managing USD 3 trillion. The platform hosts an aspirational 2030 vision and goals for the protein programme, and sets out specific investor expected protein sustainability disclosures for Asian food and agriculture businesses.
The programme engages a select list of keystone food companies, to activate and support sustainability leaders. To contextualise and scale up this effect, the next China and biennial benchmark of listed Asian protein sourcing companies will be crucial to generate regional competition and progress towards responsible animal proteins and more sustainable alternative protein sourcing.
This internship with ARE’s protein transition programme is a great opportunity to gain deeper insights into the world of food sustainability, institutional investment, corporate engagement and analysis. Besides learning the various tools and metrics used for tangible insights into company sustainability, you will be using them with real companies to conduct desktop research, benchmark companies, and assemble support for engagement and investor collaboration, among other activities. In turn, ARE would value your research skills, subject knowledge, and fresh enthusiasm, and pay a modest monthly stipend.

This internship is available from March to July 2025 with a minimum of 3 months. The role is based in our Beijing office and suit candidates from with backgrounds including food systems, agriculture, finance, economics, advocacy and research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Contribute to research an agreed universe of China food companies for engagements.
• Conduct relevant situational analysis of relevant China protein value chains.
• Contribute to stakeholder mapping of the China protein system (animal and alternative proteins).
• Participate in other background research and engagement meetings with companies (possibly banks).
• Contribute to insights for acceleration of alternative proteins in the China food system (as / if time).
• Develop and support further advocacy and communication assets.

Required qualifications:

• Postgraduates with backgrounds from food systems, agriculture, finance, economics, advocacy and research.
• Available for a minimum of 12 weeks between March to July (at least 3 days a week, with a preference for 4 days a week,24- 32 hours per week).
• Excellent written and spoken English skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and some analytical software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work independently as well as in a team

岗位职责

• 参与对中国农业食品企业的研究，支持企业参与工作
• 对中国蛋白质价值链（涵盖动物蛋白与替代蛋白）进行深入的情境分析
• 对中国蛋白质行业的利益相关方进行全面梳理与深入分析
• 参与企业（及其潜在关联的金融机构，包括银行）的深度研究与专题交流会议
• 深入研究中国食品体系中替代蛋白领域的发展趋势与市场潜力
• 参与并支持蛋白质转型项目的倡议活动以及相关宣传材料的策划与编制

岗位要求

• 具备食品体系、农业、金融、经济等相关背景的硕士研究生
• 每周至少3天工作(优先考虑每周4天)，工作时间为每周24至32小时。
• 优秀的英文书写及口语表达能力
• 熟练使用 Microsoft Office，具备一定的数据分析能力
• 具备良好的沟通能力和团队合作精神，能独立工作
